Nanjing University is considered as one of the most elite and competitive Universities in China. Throughout its history, it has nurtured and cultivated excellent talents who have made enormous contributions in their respective fields.

Nanjing has been at the forefront of international communication and cooperation between China and the rest of the world. It has established close collaborations with some of the best universities in the world and is now pushing ahead with many wide-ranging international projects to promote education internationalization.

Founded in 1902, Nanjing has cemented itself as one of the leading universities in China. It is part of the illustrious C9 League, China’s equivalent of the Ivy League. It consistently ranks as one of the best universities in China and the World, being placed within the top 120.

Nanjing has an impressive list of alumni. Throughout its history, the university has been renowned for its scientific achievements. Many of its students have gone on to be leading figures in the scientific community. Campus Overview
Nanjing University is separated into 2 campuses, Gulou and Xianlin. Gulou Campus is located in the Gulou district in the heart of Nanjing. The Xianlin Campus though is located in the northeast of Nanjing. Both campuses are designed in a way that allows students to have all the facilities and space necessary to thrive during their university life. They are filled with an extensive range of sports, eatery, entertainment, and study facilities.

The Nanjing University Library is considered to be one of the best university libraries in China. The library on the Xilian campus specifically has been voted as one of the most beautiful libraries in China too. They have accumulated an abundant collection, now reaching over 5.5 million books and others. Recently the library has increased its efforts to develop and improve its electronic collections and capabilities. This has allowed over 3 million books to be available for online viewing, expanding students’ opportunities to access important and useful resources.

Furthermore, both campuses are equipped with several canteens, convenience stores, and cafes to help fuel students whether it’s for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, or just a quick snack. Students won’t be restricted in choice. On the Xianlin Campus, there are a total of 11 canteens, whereas on the Gulou campus there are 4. These work all day to provide students with delicious and healthy Chinese and Western food. This makes sure whatever your preferences, you will always be able to find something to fill you up and prepare you for study.

If you enjoy casual or competitive sports, then Nanjing University is one of the perfect choices for you. They have a wide range of sports for you to take part in. Across the two campuses, there are three sports centers to meet the needs for physical education, extra-curricular physical training, sports team training, and sports events. On the Gulou Campus, some of the facilities available include basketball courts, tennis courts, a swimming pool, and a gymnasium. The Xianlin Campus also has basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts, as well as a football field. The Gymnasium also has ping pong tables, a Badminton room, a weight room, and many others.

Whatever your calling is, there will definitely be something to pursue your interests on campus. The student population is incredibly friendly and inviting. They work hard to help the international student population feel comfortable and enjoy their time at the university.

Accommodation
International students have the opportunity to live on campus in dedicated international student dormitories on both the Gulou and Xianlin campuses. Prices range depending on the type of room you choose and how long you stay for. But, students who are on a full Chinese Government Scholarship could get the accommodation for free. If you choose these rooms, you are guaranteed a desk, chairs, a mini bookshelf, air conditioning, internet access, private bathroom, shower and sink
Admissions

Nanjing University is one of the best universities in China. It was also one of the first to admit international students. To this day, tens of thousands of international students from over 100 countries have studied here.

Currently, there are 4 levels of programs available to international students. These are:

      • Chinese Language Training
      • Bachelors Course
      • Masters Course
      • Ph.D. Course

Chinese Language Training
This program is designed specifically for international students and is delivered by experienced teachers. The program focuses on Chinese Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, and HSK Preparation. Students will be sorted into one of 8 classes depending on their level. This starts at Beginner and moves up to elementary, intermediate, and advanced.

The entry requirements are purposefully very easy to give any student who wants to study Chinese the opportunity to apply and be accepted. These conditions are to be over 18, be in good health, and have a valid passport.
The university will normally post the letter of admission and visa application form to accepted students one month after receiving the application documents. Students can log onto the online portal to check the status of their application.

Bachelors
A bachelor’s program at Nanjing is generally 4 years long. The application period for this program is between March 1st and May 30th every year.

Candidates who wish to apply should fit the following criteria:

      • Be 18 years old or over
      • Be in good health
      • Hold a valid passport
      • Have an educational background and completed high school

For students applying for a course taught in Chinese, they should also have completed and passed the new HSK 5 test or above. For applicants whose program is in English but it isn’t their first language, they should provide proof of an IELTS score of 5.5 or more, or a TOELF test score of 70 or above.

In order to apply, students should follow this application process:. Completed the application form for International Students of Nanjing University (filled in Chinese or English)

    1. Provide a copy of their high school graduation certificate
    2. An original and notarised copy other. full high school report
    3. Copy of their HSK certificate (This doesn’t apply to those studying in English or to Students who have received a 12-year Chinese education in Malaysia or Singapore)
    4. One passport copy and 2 passports sized photos
    5. Other skill and knowledge certificates (if applicable)
    6. Pay the 600 RMB application fee

*two more documents should be submitted for applicants of architecture. These are personal statements and documentation of skills or knowledge of architecture work.

Masters
Applicants who wish to apply for a master’s course should follow the steps below. The program is normally 2-3 years long, with the application period being between March 1st and May 20th.

Qualifications

  • Applicants should be non-Chinese, be healthy physically and mentally
  • Applicants should have obtained their bachelor’s degree
  • Applicants for Chinese-taught courses should have passed their HSK test. Liberal arts should pass HSK 5. Science departments should pass HSK 4
  • Applicants from Malaysia, Singapore, and other countries that use Chinese as the education language don’t need to submit their HSK scores
  • Applicants for English-taught programs who aren’t from English-speaking countries should have a minimum score of 85 on TOEFL, 6.0 on IELTS, or 100 on Duolingo

Students should submit the following documents to the university admissions team:

    1. Physical Examination Record for Foreigners
    2. Bachelor’s degree certificate
    3. A transcript obtained in the whole bachelor’s program
    4. Two letters of recommendation from professors in your academic area of study
    5. HSK certificate/English Test result (for those applicable)
    6. A detailed proposal for study and research in China
    7. The first page of your passport
    8. For foreign citizens of Chinese origin, you may need to provide certain identity documents (please contact the university for more specific information)
    9. Those who apply to the School of Architecture and Urban Planning need to submit a portfolio of relevant works
    10. Pay the 600 RMB application fee

Nanjing will select excellent students based on their applications and each year’s available major programs. Applicants will be informed of their admission progress via a system message or email by the end of June.

PhD
Applicants who wish to apply for a Ph.D. course should follow the steps below. The program is normally 4 years long, with the application period being between March 1st and May 20th
